How much spare time do you have?
I cannot tell you how many times I’ve heard “I’m so busy”, “I don’t have time to pray”, “I will get to it one day when I have time”.
We make excuses as to why we can’t step away and spend time in prayer. And in this culture, we worry about any and everything. But if you have time to worry about it, then you have time to pray about it.
Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 1 Thessalonians 5:17
The Bible tells us to pray without ceasing! But how do we even do that?
We start by living a lifestyle of prayer. That means that you can pray anywhere and be in communication with God at any time!
We need to start being conscious of the fact that we can have a relationship with Jesus everywhere that we go and take advantage of that.
Sometimes I pray in the car, while I’m doing the dishes, in the shower, in the morning with my tea, at night staring at the dark ceiling, in the grocery store. Anywhere.
As for the excuses we all make as to why we aren’t spending time in prayer, they are invalid.
If you have time to worry, you have time to pray. You have unlimited opportunities to spend time with God.
That’s why the Word tells us to rejoice always and give thanks in all circumstances.
We have to get into the habit -not habit- lifestyle of releasing worry, rejoicing always and always having an attitude of prayer. Prayer should not be an obligation but a lifestyle.
If God is everywhere and always with us, why do we feel this pressure to pray a certain way at a certain time? We should make it a prayer lifestyle, constantly communicating with God because He is our #1. And everything else will fall in line because we have our eyes fixed on the prize.
Response Questions
1. What are you excuses to not spend time in prayer?
2. How can you make prayer a lifestyle instead of an obligation?
Pray with me!
Father God, forgive me for the excuses I make not to spend time with you. I want to rejoice always and pray without ceasing. Help me to be conscious and aware. I want to make prayer a lifestyle. Help me not to spend time in worry, but rather just spend time in communication with you. I fix my eyes on you and you alone.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
