Day 6 The Internal Listening
*Update! I am down 7lbs now and super excited about the progress!
I have been feeling super rushed lately. Being that I have 100 goals I am doing my best to accomplish everyday and working full time, it’s a lot on my plate. I am very well aware I will never achieve EVERY goal, but it’s all about trying to create a healthy lifestyle that will work for me long term.
And I absolutely refuse to beat myself up when I don’t acheive them all. I am probably only completing 75% of my daily goals so far. It takes time to find a balance and build new habits.
Yesterday, I was rushing around all day going to Disney Springs, working, writing posts and cleaning our apartment. I had already eaten lunch (delicious homemade grilled chicken salad with a side of pickles, because I’ve been craving them lately) when I realized a few hours later, I was feeling SO hungry.
Many of us restrict ourselves in some ways when we are dieting, and I think that’s normal. We try not to eat as crappy of foods and stick to a regimen. Being that I had already had my breakfast, lunch and a light snack, I was so confused why I could be hungry.
I chugged water thinking it might help.
Nope, still starving.
So I sat in the silence for a minute, put my computer down and listened to my body. My body was telling me that I was hungry, despite the fact I had already eaten.
So I listened and ate some tuna and zucchini until I was full. I didn’t eat in front of the tv or have my phone in front of me. I ate in the silence without distractions and allowed my body to eat until I was full.
This morning when I woke up, I thought, I probably gained weight because I ate more than what I “should” have eaten yesterday.
Guess what? The scale was down 3 pounds from yesterday! And I believe that was because I listened to what my body needed.
You have to listen to your body, because majority of the time, it knows better than you do.
Sometimes our body is trying to tell us things but we just aren’t listening because we think we know better.
Internal listening is important. Sometimes we think we know what’s best for us with food and exercise.
We need to challenge ourselves when it comes to exercise and eating healthier choices for our bodies. Sometimes we need to push ourselves to do one more minute on the stair master, one more rep with the weights.
But sometimes we need to listen when our body says please eat something more or no more cardio today.
When we intuitively listen to our bodies, we are able to go farther and make more progress in the long run. You do NOT want to get burnt out because you pushed yourself too hard in the beginning.
Some days I work harder than others. Some days I eat more than others. I have to learn to be okay with that, because again, I do not want to live with a black and white mindset. We are actively trying to learn to live in the grey.
We only get one body and we need to take care of it, whether that means pushing ourselves to go harder or taking a step back.
I challenge you today to start listening to your body because it just might be trying to tell you something. Because when we listen to our bodies, we are able to give our body exactly what it needs.
