“Plan your meals ahead and buy only what you need, not what you want.”
We are on day 9 and down 9lbs at 264!
I feel like I’m finally starting to make some progress when it comes to routine and schedule. Planning my days, workouts and meals ahead of time seems to really help me.
Every weekend, hubs and I do our weekly grocery shopping. We find that we spend less money on groceries when we plan our meals in advance and buy only what we need for the week at the store.
This week’s grocery haul included the produce for my daily protein green smoothie, chicken for some grilled chicken salad for my lunches, and some spaghetti squash for a few of my dinners.
I used to try to buy all the food I would need for the entire month ahead of time and that just did not work for us. Our cravings would change, we would run out of things quicker and end up spending hundreds of dollars more than we needed to.
So I sat down and wrote out the meals I wanted to eat throughout the week, nothing more and nothing less. And that was how I compiled my list for the store.
When you plan ahead, it takes the guesswork out of figuring out what to eat, which was my issue. When I didn’t have my meals planned daily, I tended to overeat.
The grocery store used to be very hard for me.
Every time I went there it was like the food was talking to me saying, “Eat me! Choose me!”
I would walk the aisles and do my best not to buy too many things that were “bad”. But it used to be very overwhelming and majority of the time, ended in failure.
I’d end up binging all day, all week, and all month. With daily trips to the grocery store to accommodate my craving of the day.
Now that I am learning a lot of new things and working on discipline and self control, going to the store today for our weekly grocery haul was not hard.
In fact, it was nice to have a list in front of me and grab only the things that I needed. I no longer felt overwhelming by all the options, but instead looked around for new ideas.
If you are someone who is beginning your weightloss journey, you are not alone if grocery shopping is overwhelming you like it once did me.
Sit down with a pen and paper and write down your meals for the week. Then when you go to th3e store, only purchase the things on your list. Nothing more and nothing less.
Because when you plan ahead and buy only what you need, you tend to learn to want only what you need.
