My husband and I were recently sitting in church, waiting for the service to start. We ended up getting into a deep discussion about certain things we are praying for. I told him we just needed to have faith that God would answer our prayers and fulfill his promises to us.
I then proceeded to start venting and complaining about how I was scared he wouldn’t fulfill that promise to me.
Brandon turned and stared at me blankly, “You’re being a hypocrite.”
Service started and the music started to play. I broke down realizing how honest Bran was being. He was right and he wasn’t afraid to say it. I was being a hypocrite.
In one breath I’m speaking in faith and the next, I’m speaking in fear. Am I a believer who doesn’t believe?
(If you want to read an article I wrote about when it seems like God isn’t answering your prayers, click here!)
Sometimes we forget that God is true to his promises. That he is always working behind the scenes whether or not we see it. God is working in our waiting.
We sit here claiming to be believers but when it comes to believing for ourselves, we fall short. We are hypocrites who say we believe in God but don’t believe what God can do.
This verse is everything.
Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised. Romans 4:20
That needs to be us. We need to refuse to waver in unbelief regarding God’s promises, but be strengthened in our faith and give God the glory, knowing from the bottom of our hearts that God has the power to do what he’s promised to us.
We need to use our words wisely and believe that God will answer our prayers. We need to speak and act in faith. We need to expect God to fulfill his promises and his word to us. He has the power to do what he has promised! The Bible says it right there!
Once we pray for something, we don’t need to keep asking for it over and over again, we need to thank him and have expectation!
Response Journal Questions:
1. What am I praying for or believing God for that I negate with my words or actions?
2. How can I consciously act in faith moving forward?
Pray with me!
Father God, I come to you and I ask you to forgive every word I’ve said that was said in fear or unbelief. Thank you that you will fulfill your promises to me at the perfect time. Help me to use my words to speak life and faith in every situation. Help me not to waver in unbelief regarding your promises, but strengthen me in my faith and help me to be fully persuaded that you have the power to do what you’ve promised. I give you the glory and I wait in expectation.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
