I remember when I used to read sci-fi YA novels recommended by my book nerd friends. And eventually, a movie series was released based on the Divergent novels.
In the movie, everyone has to take a “test”. You take a drink that puts you into an alternate reality simulation of your biggest fears and you cannot escape the simulation until you’ve conquered those fears. You would be judged based on how you conquered your fears and how quickly you overcame them.
One night I started really thinking, “what would my biggest fears be if I was put in this simulation?”
Would it be spiders? Or clowns? Or the fear of extreme pain? That I’ll never be a mom?
People who really know me would know that I don’t have many fears. I’m not scared of death, I’m not afraid of people, and heights don’t really bother me.
Then reality hit me…
My biggest fear is that I will never reach my full potential and never fulfill my purpose.
It started to scare me thinking about all the things I want to be and the seemingly impossible things I want to do in this life, cause life is so short.
In the middle of my fear, God stepped in and reminded me that He never gave me a spirit of fear.
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7
So many of us are scared ALL THE TIME. We are scared of so many things all the time. But sometimes we need to ask ourselves, why am I scared?
Those fears are not from God because the Word tells us He never gave us a spirit of fear.
God gave us a spirit of power, love and a calm mind. Why are we so scared if God loves us and takes care of us?
Fear is something that grips so many people, but it’s time we reject fear and allow the love, power and peace of God to substitute that.
Fear has a large shadow, but he himself is small.
(especially when standing next to our big God!)

Pray with me!
Father God, I bind up fear in the name of Jesus and I command it to leave. Thank you that you have not given me a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind. Help my mind to stay in complete peace. When the world feels scary, I pray that you’d remind me that you are there with me. Help me not to live in fear or act in fear. I want to walk in peace. Thank you for reminding me that you have more for me.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
