When I have a lot of energy, I tend to be a talker. My husband will sit there in silence while I blabber on and on about the dumbest things. And because he is mostly silent when I go on a tangent, I tend to talk even more to fill the silence.
For some, prayer is like that…like a monologue.
It’s just you talking to God, going on and on. Asking for things, complaining about things, thanking him for things. Sometimes we just kind of talk at him.
But are you a good listener?
Prayer should be a dialogue. Where we speak with God and God speaks to us.
Sometimes we are so busy talking, that we forget to allow God to respond to us. To give us clarity. To laugh or comfort us. To guide us and give us his wisdom. To love on us.
Well how do you listen?
Jeremiah 33:3 Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.
It all starts just by asking for God’s guidance. Because when we do that, it allows God to have authority over the other voices we hear every day.
We need guidance when we are hurting, when we are content, when we are anxious, when we are waiting, when we have families, when we are in love. We always need guidance.
And after asking for guidance, we stop.
And listen. And allow God to speak to us.
Give it 10 minutes. What is God saying? What emerges as you listen?
Write down any verses, songs, pictures, words, phrases or encouragement that pops up.
After this becomes a part of your normal routine, it becomes easier and easier to hear God’s voice.
We all need to practice and learn how to hear God’s voice. And the more we do, the clearer his voice becomes. And that is ultimately what we all want…to have conversations with the God of the universe, where he speaks back to us.

Pray with me!
Father God, I turn off all distractions around me and I allow you to respond today. I ask for your clear guidance and that you would speak to me. I wait on you for encouragement, wisdom and direction. Thank you that you want to speak to me. Open my heart up to receive what you want to say.
