I remember the days I prayed for what I have now.
I would be sobbing, asking God for things. Asking God for a good husband. For a good job. For good friends. For depression to go away. For a pure heart and mind. For a healthy body.
Did you ever think that in order to receive those things, you have to give something up?
You want a good husband? Become the most loyal, godly woman you can be. Put Tinder away. Don’t settle.
You want a good job? Find your purpose, what you’re passionate about and chase after it.
You want good friends? Get rid of the crappy ones that suck you in. Get in church and in small groups where you can build healthy friendships.
You want a pure heart and mind? Stop watching trashy tv shows, listening to trashy music and doing things you shouldn’t be.
You want a healthy body? Put away the donuts and start eating healthier.
Wow Sierra, you are so harsh!
When you desire good things, sometimes it require sacrifice. Sometimes it requires us to give something up.
God will send a replacement when you’re not afraid to lose what He’s replacing.
That is huge.
Sometimes, in order to live the life you’ve always wanted to live and been meant to live, you have to surrender things you don’t want to lose.
We hold on so tightly to things. We hold on tightly to people, to sex, to music, to television shows, to friends, to what we want.
Look back at that picture.
When you surrender all those things, that gives God the opportunity to give you EVEN BETTER THINGS. God wants only the best for us.
Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
When my husband and I got engaged and were entering into marriage, we had to surrender some things we may have liked because we knew that God had even bigger and better things for us in our marriage. We gave up all kinds of things in our marriage like trashy television, drinking and certain friends.
It was the best thing that ever happened to us. It gave our marriage such a purity and God was able to bless us and give us more than we could have imagined. All because we were willing to give up some things.
God will send a replacement when you’re not afraid to lose what He’s replacing.
I promise you that wonderful things are in store for you. God has a plan and purpose for each one of us, but sometimes it requires action to receive it.
How tight are you holding on? Because when you release those things, that’s when the magic happens.
Response Journal Questions:
1. What things are you holding on tightly to? Why?
2. What actions can you take to release those things into God’s hands?
Ex: stop hanging out with certain people, quit smoking, get off of dating apps, get involved at church, etc.
Pray with me!
Father God, I want to live the life you have in mind for me. Help me to identify and surrender the things I hold on to so tightly. I know that you want to give me bigger and better things. Help me to be open to that. Help me to stop holding on to things that you don’t want for me. I give you all of me today.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
