Are you truly loving?
You know how there are just certain people you just click with? Like, you meet them randomly and you feel like you want to be their friend?
I remember when I used to be a lifeguard coming out of high school and one of the moms came and sat next to my guard chair. We started talking and I lowkey wanted to ask her for her phone number so that I could hang out with her more. She was so kind and made me feel so seen, so comfortable. She was just, well, loving.
I have an old friend, Kristen, who was the absolute epitome of this.
Any person she talked to, she would look them in the eyes as they spoke and ask them questions about themselves. Her eyes would sparkle along with her smile, truly be interested in what they had to say,. And for the time that you were with her, you were the only person in the world that mattered. It felt like you were unadulteratedly loved by her.
I wanted to be like that and be that kind of Christian. If she was going through personal stuff, I had no clue because of how happy and selfless she seemed. She brought joy into every room she walked in.
When I worked a very hard job dealing with unhappy people, I kept a picture of her next to my desk to remind me to be as attentive and loving to everyone as I could. She was a shining example of God’s love in my eyes.
Would people use the word loving to describe you?
1 Corinthians 16:14 Let all that you do be done in love.
All that we do?
God is telling us to do everything in love.
That means with our words, our actions, our face, our demeaner, our tone, our body language, our intentions, our attitude. Everything.
And that means loving others despite what their life looks like. Loving others with a pure love that has no conditions to it.
It may be one of the hardest things we ever strive to do but if God is love, and his Spirit lives inside of us, it it even more possible.
I want to be a Christian that is described as loving above all else. I want people to feel that love and comfort of Christ, just by being around me.
How about you?

Father God, forgive me for the moments that I don’t act in love. Help me to let all I do be done in love. Help me to overlook the flaws in others and view them the same way you do. Give me your heart for people. I ask that you help me day by day. I want to spend my life striving to be more like you.
