Are you running your own race?
In my early 20’s, everyone started to pair off into couples and get married. I watched as everyone fell in love and moved on with their lives, as I sat on the sidelines alone. I wanted what they had. I did everything I could to prepare myself so I’d be ready. I even went looking for love when I should have just stay in my lane and waited until God opened that door.
Many of us want what other people have. Most of the time you aren’t wanting a specific person or thing, but rather the idea of it or to be in a different season of life. You don’t wanna steal someone’s husband, you just wanna find your husband. You don’t wanna steal someone’s baby, but you want your own family. You don’t wanna ransack someone’s house, you just wanna have nice things. Etcetera.
I think that when we are wanting something that isn’t ours, it shows that Jesus is no longer our focus. That we are focusing on our desires more than we are focusing on His.
Let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne. Think of all the hostility he endured from sinful people; then you won’t become weary and give up. Hebrews 12:1-3
This verse though!
The Bible tells us to get rid of everything that slows us down, especially sin.
He wants us to run our own race. Not somebody else’s.
We do this by just focusing on Jesus because He makes us better! And the way we don’t give up is by thinking about the sacrifice he made for us on the cross all so that we could fulfill our purpose and find freedom.
We need to realize that if it’s not in your life right now, it’s not meant for you right now.
If I had kept my eyes faithfully on Jesus throughout my twenties, I bet I would have met my husband sooner and had more success in my life. I kept getting distracted and off track, when I should have been content and joyful on my own journey.
Who cares what everyone else is doing in their life. God has a specific plan and purpose for your life and you just have to get rid of the weight that slows you down. Deal with the sin that trips you up and do what you need to do for you. Looking at what other people have and comparing is never the answer.
Let’s try to run our race with endurance to the finish line!
