Are you obedient?
What do you mean, am I obedient?
I used to have a friend that desperately wanted to get married to a good, Godly guy. She didn’t know why her life was going so terribly and why she couldn’t find anyone.
I told her that maybe she should just be obedient.
She didn’t understand, so I sat her down and told her, “If you really want a good, Godly man, you will never find him by dating hundreds of people on dating apps or Tinder. You won’t be finding him drunk in a bar or by having one night stands. You will find him when you are obedient to the Word, put all that stuff away and become the type of woman who should have a good, Godly man.”
Throughout the Bible, God tells us that He will bless us for our obedience.
Obedience brings blessing.
Now it shall be, if you diligently obey the Lord your God, being careful to do all His commandments which I command you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth. All these blessings will come upon you and overtake you if you obey the Lord your God Deuteronomy 28:1-2
Romans 2:13 for it is not the hearers of the Law who are just before God, but the doers of the Law will be justified.
The Bible tells us to not only be hearers of the Word, but doers.
If all we ever do is just read the Bible, but never practice or act on any of it, what was the point? God gave us the Bible an instruction manual for life. And when you read all of it, it all adds up. It helps us to make sense of our lives.
So when the Bible tells us to love each other, forgive others, to tithe, to honor our parents, to give to the poor, to be sexually pure, to trust in God, to believe for healing, to not use foul language, to pray for our enemies, to treat our bodies like a temple, to rejoice in our trials, are you obedient?
Obedience brings blessing. God doesn’t instruct us to do things in the Word for no reason. He has a reason for everything. And when we are obedient, it opens us up for blessing and favor, because then God can see that He can trust us. It brings all the glory back to Him.
We all struggle to be 100% obedient to the Word, even the strongest of Christians. But it’s all about not just hearing the Word, but doing the Word.
So, are you obedient?

Pray with me!
Father God, I want to be obedient to your Word. I don’t just want to be a hearer, I want to be a doer of your Word. Help me to tackle the areas where I’m disobedient. I want my life to bring you glory and honor. Help me to actively do that.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
